An Lady Mór was originally built in Carraroe in 1885, by the same family, the McDonaghs, that built An Maighdean Mhara, as a Bad Mór.
She comes with a lot of history, she worked as a cargo boat up to the end of the turf trade to Aran in the mid 60’s.
Like all all the other boats she went into decline due to the turf trade finishing until the Hooker revival of the 1970s.
After she was resored she was eventually bought by Mick Hunt who brought her to Howth in the 80s where she sailed in local regattas. She was later sold to Ben McDonagh in 1992, who sailed her to Brittany 3 times, Brest twice and Lorient. She also took part in the 1995 Tall Ships Race in Amsterdam.
Ben sold her a Lan Gaeilge organisation in Derry in late 2005 where she was used as a training vessel.
She is due to return to Galway in the near future under the care of Bádóirí an Chladaig where she will begin a new chapter in her interesting life.
